Lane Positioning Tips for New Drivers | Ottawa Driving
How to Maintain Proper Lane Position While Driving
One of the most important skills for new drivers is learning how to keep the vehicle properly positioned within the lane. Many beginners tend to drift toward one side or constantly adjust the steering wheel.
Look Ahead
Avoid looking too close to the front of the car. Look farther ahead in the direction you want to travel. This helps you maintain a straighter and more stable path.
Stay Balanced Within the Lane
Use road markings, mirrors, and your view ahead to judge your vehicle’s position. Try to maintain a safe and balanced position between both sides of the lane.
Avoid Over-Correcting
If the vehicle moves slightly toward one side, avoid making a large steering correction. Use small, smooth steering adjustments. Over-correcting can cause the vehicle to move from side to side.
Practice Makes a Difference
With regular practice and proper guidance, lane positioning and steering control will become more natural.
